Rug Doctor Spot Cleaner

This spot cleaner from Rug Doctor looks very much like a Tonka toy of some sorts. It comes in bright, fire-engine red and is built in a compact and rounded form factor. The only things ruining the highly rounded silhouette are the small handle and long hose and brush. These features though are of course what makes it so great for wheeling around and reaching all those tougher-to-get-at areas.

Note that this is a spot cleaner and not a full carpet cleaner. What does that mean? We’ve reviewed a few similar devices on the site and what it essentially gets you is a device that you can wheel around behind you and that you can carry up stairs and that you can then use to clean specific patches of carpet where a pet may have had an accident or someone might have dropped some dinner.

In other words, this isn’t designed to replace your carpet cleaning service because it can’t easily be used to cover large areas. However, if you want to keep your carpets looking cleaner all year round by cleaning up the odd stain or the odd mark, then it can be used very easily to that end.

Performance

This might look like a toy of some sort, but the performance of the Rug Doctor is nothing to be sniffed at. In fact, this particular model boasts 2x the suction of many of the leading portable spot cleaners. This promises you a deeper clean that can remove bacteria and bring your carpet up to looking new again.

This effectiveness also carries over to the hand-held components. In this case, you get a powerful handheld oscillating motor brush which ‘does the scrubbing for you’ and helps you get a lot deeper when you’re attacking that particular mark.

This is one of the more powerful spot cleaners, which is interesting as many spot cleaners are marketed more toward quickly cleaning up easy messes.

Convenience

This is a very convenient and easy-to-use machine. The form factor right away means you have something small and perfectly portable and it can easily be stored thanks to a relatively thin chassis. On top of this, the retractable handle and carpet-friendly wheels means that you can wheel it around behind you very easily. The tanks have also been designed for easy removal which makes it very easy to fill back up. That said, it’s actually not quite as light as some of the spot cleaners on the market at 20.2 pounds and it’s also still not going to be fully efficient for covering larger areas.

The motorized brush also means that you don’t have to scrub quite so hard on your hands and knees – always a plus!

Accessories

This is a relatively affordable unit and as such comes free from bells and whistles. In this case, that, unfortunately, means it’s very light on extra features and accessories.

Warranty & Support

This product comes with two years parts and labor, which means you will be covered if anything should go wrong with your device. Most reviews though paint this to be a resilient machine. You also have the option to include additional service and protection for a small extra charge.

Overall, this is one of the best spot cleaners on the market. That’s because it manages to be small and portable while offering some of the most effective cleaning thanks to the brushes and even the motorized attachment which means you don’t have to work so hard yourself at stains.

All in all then, a great choice if you want something to clean specific spots in your home. Just make sure you know what you’re getting with the spot cleaner and understand the differences between this and some of the proper carpet cleaners. This is not for cleaning the entire expanse of your home or for bringing carpets up brilliantly clean. That said, when used to tackle spots as it is designed for, you’ll likely find that this is a very efficient machine that can get tougher stains out than some of the competition. So note to that if you don’t need power, there are smaller and cheaper models out there.
