The Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner is an affordable carpet cleaner with great customer reviews, lots of advanced features and great all-around attention to detail. If you’re looking for an affordable implement that you can use to keep your carpets looking clean and new, then this might just be a good choice.

But how does it stack up compared with the many other carpet cleaners on the market? Does it offer good value for money? And does it result in a deep clean for your carpet, as the name would rather imply?

Performance

In terms of performance, this is an excellent choice of carpet cleaner. This was clearly the focus during the design and manufacture of this product and in some ways it can be considered superior to something like the Hoover Deluxe Carpet Cleaner.

This is because it’s not a traditional upright cleaner. Unlike modern carpet cleaners that are designed to look and function very similarly to vacuum cleaners, this unit has a very large base that you can push and pull but which keeps the actual vacuum component closer to the ground. According to the manufactures Rug Doctor, this gives the carpet cleaner 75% more suction compared with most upright deep cleaners.

As is often the case, you also get a lot of proprietary terminology from this device. That includes ‘Dual Cross Action Brushes’ which means you get two brushes under the machine that are designed to deep clean the carpet fibers from the sides as well as from the top. In theory, this could result in a more thorough clean.

Meanwhile, the new Super Boost Spray function allows you to change the way you approach cleaning in high-versus-low traffic areas of your carpet. Not every patch of your carpet is the same, so it makes sense to approach different areas slightly differently.

Convenience

Like many of the carpet cleaners we look at, this is still designed to offer deep carpet cleaning to a professional standard but without the hassle and the mess. Thus, you get an easy empty and refill water tanks, measurements on the solution cap to help you get the right quantities and ratios and other beneficial features.

One particularly useful tweak regarding practicality is the handle. This has three positions during deep cleaning, which means that you can find the position that feels comfortable for you. Better yet, the handle collapses when you put it away which means it’s all the more likely to store in a cupboard.

That said, some people are going to prefer upright models regarding practicality. That’s because the item weighs 24 pounds (versus 18 for the Hoover for example) and is a little bulkier and rounder. It’s important to keep in mind that this will not only impact the way you store and retrieve your cleaner but also the amount of force you need to exert dragging it around your carpets.

The 28 ft. Cord is particularly generous however and very useful for accessing areas that are perhaps not easily reachable from a power socket.

In summary, this is a great carpet cleaner that offers a heavy duty clean for commercial customers. It’s a little more expensive and a little less portable than some upright models from the likes of Hoover, but it makes up for that concerning performance. Many reviews describe this as a ‘one pass’ machine, meaning you won’t have to go over the same area more than once to get a perfect clean. The only real downside in regards to performance is that it doesn’t include a water heater. And some people find that the cord wrap isn’t well designed.

This is a great choice of carpet cleaner for those who are young and fit and want the best clean possible. Of course, there are cheaper and lighter options out there, however.
